Uli, a young stone artist raised by priests, is sent out to find his way in the city of Thebes. Just as he begins to understand his good standing on the social ladder, he is transferred to work in the desert tombs. Here, he encounters deplorable working conditions, corruption, and thievery. As Uli notices the balance of hard work and honest reward becoming askew, he is challenged to find his voice, rescue his friends, intercept an assassination attempt on the Pharaoh, and find family and a sense of belonging.
